This week’s topic is books that exceeded my expectations.  The ones I chose are either outside my comfort zone or they were slower paced books.  I never expected to love these as much as I did.  They are in no particular order.  I didn’t read all these last year.  I generally go into books with somewhat high expectations, so I had to dig back a bit farther.

A Constellation of Roses by Miranda Asebedo

Ever since her mother walked out, Trix McCabe has been determined to make it on her own. And with her near-magical gift for pulling valuables off unsuspecting strangers, Trix is confident she has what it takes to survive. Until she’s caught and given a choice: jail time, or go live with her long-lost family in the tiny town of Rocksaw, Kansas.

Trix doesn’t plan to stick around Rocksaw long, but there’s something special about her McCabe relatives that she is drawn to. Her aunt, Mia, bakes pies that seem to cure all ills. Her cousin, Ember, can tell a person’s deepest secret with the touch of a hand. And Trix’s great-aunt takes one look at Trix’s palm and tells her that if she doesn’t put down roots somewhere, she won’t have a future anywhere.

Before long, Trix feels like she might finally belong with this special group of women in this tiny town in Kansas. But when her past comes back to haunt her, she’ll have to decide whether to take a chance on this new life . . . or keep running from the one she’s always known.

With lovable and flawed characters, an evocative setting, and friendships to treasure, A Constellation of Roses is the perfect companion to Miranda Asebedo’s debut novel The Deepest Roots.

This week’s topic is 5 most anticipated books of 2020.  I am pretty sure this list will change weekly, but I did narrow it down to 5.  I did not choose any arcs or finished copies I’ve already read.

These are in no particular order.  If you ask me my top five next week, it may be totally different.  I am very inconsistent with these.  I will have a bigger list (two) later this week.

I decided not to include sequels, but you should see that list soon.

This week’s topic is top five reasons I rate a book 5 stars.  This is a tough one because I don’t really have a rating system, but I know certain things do give me a push.  There are in no order.

Pacing:  I tend to struggle with slower paced books.  It’s really bad if a book is fast paced and then slows down a lot.  That’s not saying I won’t rate a book high if it’s not fast paced, but it needs to really pull me in.

This week’s topic is books I didn’t get to in 2019.

There were so many books I planned on reading that got skipped over this year.  I decided to pick the ones that were actually on my TBR cart.

This week’s topic is most surprising reads in 2019.

I had quite a few books that were surprises for me this year, but I was actually able to narrow it down to five.
