The Heart Hunter by Mickey George and V Gagnon

On the cursed island of Envecor, everyone is doomed to wear their heart outside their bodies, and are immortal—unable to die, to change, to have children— until they find their soul mate. Paired soul mates are then turned mortal, freed from the curse, and able to leave. But all fairy tales have a dark side: those who don’t want to lose their immortality pay “Heart Hunters” to find their soul mates and kill them so they may remain immortal. Psyche, a Heart Hunter, is hired by the king to kill his soulmate. As she sets out on her quest, she begins her own journey of mending her broken heart and learning to trust again.

In The Heart Hunter, hearts live on the outside of bodies.  Everyone has a soulmate that they need to find.  There is a curse on the island.  If you don’t fidn your soulmate, you basically live forever.  Once you find your soulmate, you can leave, have children, and age.  The king wants to live forever, so he hires a heart hunter to find his soulmate and kill him.  Hearts can break, but they usually can’t die.  But there is a way to make an arrow that can pierce the heart of someone.  Psyche is a heart hunter.  Her heart was broken after her soulmate died.  Soulmates aren’t always romantic relationships and you can get another soulmate once your hearts are no longer connected to the first one.  Things don’t go as planned when Psyche meets Isaac with his heart of gold.   Maybe there is a way to break the curse on the island for good.

I liked the artwork and story.  There were different types of hearts and I enjoyed all the characters.  Overall, this was really good.

I gave this book 4 stars.  Thank you to Legendary Comics for sending me a finished copy for review.

Warnings for heartbreak, sacrifice/suicide, death.

My name is Kristi and I review books and mod on TBR and Beyond on Facebook. I love to travel and go to concerts. I've been married for over 20 years. I listen to a lot of pop punk. Otherwise, I'm pretty boring. We do have four grandchildren now and try to see them monthly since they don't live close. I read mostly YA and adult mystery/thrillers. I also read a lot of middle grade and some adult romance. You can also find me on facebook, twitter, and instagram (don't post often).
