Taking Up Space by Alyson Gerber

Sarah loves basketball more than anything. Crushing it on the court makes her feel like she matters. And it’s the only thing that helps her ignore how much it hurts when her mom forgets to feed her.

But lately Sarah can’t even play basketball right. She’s slower now and missing shots she should be able to make. Her body doesn’t feel like it’s her own anymore. She’s worried that changing herself back to how she used to be is the only way she can take control over what’s happening.

When Sarah’s crush asks her to be partners in a cooking competition, she feels pulled in a million directions. She’ll have to dig deep to stand up for what she needs at home, be honest with her best friends, and accept that she doesn’t need to change to feel good about herself.

I'm Kristi. I'm a wife, mom, and grandma. I have been breeding leopard geckos for ten years. I love to read and have been trying to review more books (the reason for this blog besides wanting to talk about books with everyone). I also love music and going to concerts, mostly punk and pop punk.

  1. Hi Kristi. Thanks again for helping me and my cat. This book looks great and I will surely look into this.

I read your bio and you’re so cool. OMG, you breed leopard geckos? And that’s while being a wide, mom and grandma. I wanna be you when I grow up. Hehe. I only have one cat, Page, and now that she’s sick, it’s really hard for me. This is like the first time I’ve ever faced such hardship. And I know it’s harder than everything I faced before because Page is mine and she’s my responsibility. Hehe. I still have so much to learn. And more than that, she matters to me so much. ❤️

    1. You’re so welcome and thank you for your kind words. It definitely wasn’t easy breeding while parenting and taking care of a house. It got easier when my daughter moved out, but it was still a lot of work. I’m done breeding now, but I still have a lot of geckos. I really hope Page gets better with her treatments.

      1. I’m so curios about other pets, especially unique ones like geckos and rats. For some reason even though, it’s hard right now with Page, I’m still interested in having other pets. Maybe because it’s so fulfilling and heartwarming to have pets. 🙂 But I know I’m not ready to get other pets now, maybe in few years. 😀
