A Curse of Gold cover

Curses and queens. Pirates and kings. Gods and magic. This highly anticipated sequel to Annie Sullivan’s enchanting A Touch of Gold, the story of the daughter King Midas turned to gold, is the gripping crescendo to this sweeping fantasy adventure. The final saga of a cursed queen, a vengeful Greek god, and a dazzling kingdom in the balance.

After barely surviving thieving, bloodthirsty pirates and a harrowing quest at sea to retrieve her stolen treasure, Kora finds readjusting to palace life just as deadly. Kora’s people openly turn against her, threatening her overthrow as heir to the throne—a cursed queen who has angered Dionysus. When Dionysus puts out a challenge to kill the girl with the golden touch and burn down her kingdom, it’s not just her future on the throne in danger. Kora’s life and entire kingdom are now on contract.

As bold and brave as ever, Kora sets out to find Dionysus, the very person who is trying to kill her, on the mysterious disappearing island of Jipper. Kora has no other choice. If she wants to save her kingdom and have any chance at reversing her father’s curse, she will have to enter into a deadly game with Dionysus, the greatest trickster the world, or the underworld, has ever seen.

A Curse of Gold is a book two, so please know there are spoilers for book one below.

I really enjoyed this book, but I did like A Touch of Gold more. This was a fast paced, quick read. Kora and Royce are still together. Hettie is trying to deal with the grief of her dad dying and with what he did. Dionysus is set on killing Kora. She needs to find a way to stop him. Royce and Kora go find the Oracle. She shows Kora the death that will come if Dionysus makes it to Lagonia. Royce gathers his men and they leave by boat. The group finds out that Dionysus is on Jipper, but no one can get there. Kora and Royce decide they need to talk to Poseidon, but they first have to find Tritan. Jipper moves fast and no ship can anchor to it. It also rises and sets with the sun.

There are a lot of challenges along the way. Titan proves difficult to work with and Kora is constantly trying to find ways to outsmart the Gods. She knows that one wrong word in a bargain can backfire and change everything. There are sea monsters, snakes, poison, venom, rough waters, and dangers on land. We get to see Kora and Royce’s relationship grow with every challenge though. The give each other strength and support.

I loved Tritan. He was so arrogant and clueless with humans, but I adored him. Grax was another favorite, too. I loved Titan’s relationship with Grax.

I gave this book 4 stars. Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for my review copy.

“Are you sure they’re not drawn to you for your powers? Humans love power. They’re always trying to get more.”

Land or sea, everywhere is an adventure with you. And I want to spend a lifetime discovering every place with you.

He pushes them away before they can abandon him. I can’t imagine how lonely he must be. Or maybe I can.

I'm Kristi. I'm a wife, mom, and grandma. I have been breeding leopard geckos for ten years. I love to read and have been trying to review more books (the reason for this blog besides wanting to talk about books with everyone). I also love music and going to concerts, mostly punk and pop punk.
