Top Ten Tuesday 12/31/19

TTT-NEW

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.   You can find each week’s topic on her site.

This week’s prompt is top ten books I read in 2019.  I’m going to cheat a bit and just share a graphic.  It will save my hand from a ton of typing.  I’ve read so many good books this year and will be sharing a bigger list soon.

Signing Up For The 2020 Beat The Backlist Challenge

I’m horrible with reading older books.  But I do want to get better.  I feel like I did better in 2019 than in 2018, but I can still improve.  So I’m signing up for the Beat the Backlist Challenge hosted by Novelknight.  All the info can be found here.

Goodreads Monday 12/30/19

Goodreads Monday is hosted by Lauren’s Page Turners.  All you have to do is show off a book from your TBR that you’re looking forward to reading.

It’s getting hard to remember which ones I’ve done already, so I’m sorry if you see a book pop up on these more than once.  It will happen.

Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson

Jacqueline Woodson, one of today’s finest writers, tells the moving story of her childhood in mesmerizing verse.

Raised in South Carolina and New York, Woodson always felt halfway home in each place. In vivid poems, she shares what it was like to grow up as an African American in the 1960s and 1970s, living with the remnants of Jim Crow and her growing awareness of the Civil Rights movement. Touching and powerful, each poem is both accessible and emotionally charged, each line a glimpse into a child’s soul as she searches for her place in the world. Woodson’s eloquent poetry also reflects the joy of finding her voice through writing stories, despite the fact that she struggled with reading as a child. Her love of stories inspired her and stayed with her, creating the first sparks of the gifted writer she was to become.

Have you read this yet?  Is it on your TBR?

Down The TBR Hole #114

Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by lost in a story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when youre scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well thats going to change!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if youre feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go

I am going to remove sequels for books when I haven’t read book one.  They may or may not get added back later.

19 Favorite Covers of 2019

There were so many covers that I loved this year.  It was hard to narrow it down to 19 and I would probably change things if I went back through everything again.  But I’m going with these in no particular order.

Friday Face Off 12/27/19

I saw this on Lynn’s Book Blog and thought it would be fun to do.  I may not do every week, but I’m going to try to do as many as I can.

The Friday Face Off meme was created by Books by Proxy .  This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favorite book covers.  The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme, choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favorite.

This week’s theme is a book that is glittery or sparkly.  I couldn’t really find anything with glitter, but I have the UK edition of this book and it’s all shiny and sparkly.  Sadly it’s hard to tell by the cover photos.
