Friday Face Off 10/25/19

I saw this on Lynn’s Book Blog and thought it would be fun to do.  I may not do every week, but I’m going to try to do as many as I can.

The Friday Face Off meme was created by Books by Proxy .  This is a great opportunity to feature some of your favorite book covers.  The rules are fairly simple each week, following a predetermined theme, choose a book, compare a couple of the different covers available for that particular book and choose your favorite.

This week’s theme is a book with a scary cover.

The Caged Queen by Kristen Ciccarelli

Kristen Ciccarelli’s distinct brand of lyrical, haunting fantasy continues in the companion to her bestselling debut, The Last Namsara. Perfect for fans of Kristin Cashore and Renee Ahdieh.

Once there were two sisters born with a bond so strong that it forged them together forever. Roa and Essie called it the hum. It was a magic they cherished—until the day a terrible accident took Essie’s life and trapped her soul in this world.

Dax—the heir to Firgaard’s throne—was responsible for the accident. Roa swore to hate him forever. But eight years later he returned, begging for her help. He was determined to dethrone his cruel father, under whose oppressive reign Roa’s people had suffered.

Roa made him a deal: she’d give him the army he needed if he made her queen. Only as queen could she save her people from Firgaard’s rule.

Then a chance arises to right every wrong—an opportunity for Roa to rid herself of this enemy king and rescue her beloved sister. During the Relinquishing, when the spirits of the dead are said to return, Roa discovers she can reclaim her sister for good.

All she has to do is kill the king.

Girls of Storm and Shadow by Natasha Ngan

In this mesmerizing sequel to the New York Times bestselling Girls of Paper and Fire, Lei and Wren have escaped their oppressive lives in the Hidden Palace, but soon learn that freedom comes with a terrible cost.

Lei, the naive country girl who became a royal courtesan, is now known as the Moonchosen, the commoner who managed to do what no one else could. But slaying the cruel Demon King wasn’t the end of the plan—it’s just the beginning. Now Lei and her warrior love Wren must travel the kingdom to gain support from the far-flung rebel clans. The journey is made even more treacherous thanks to a heavy bounty on Lei’s head, as well as insidious doubts that threaten to tear Lei and Wren apart from within.

Meanwhile, an evil plot to eliminate the rebel uprising is taking shape, fueled by dark magic and vengeance. Will Lei succeed in her quest to overthrow the monarchy and protect her love for Wren, or will she fall victim to the sinister magic that seeks to destroy her?

Top Five Tuesday 10/22/19

Top Five Tuesday was created by Bionic Book Worm.  You can find the topics on the blog I just linked.

This week’s topic is top 5 audiobooks.

I don’t listen to a lot of audiobooks, but my husband and I will listen to a book together in the car.  These are usually rereads for me unless it’s a short book.

Top Ten Tuesday 10/22/19

TTT-NEW

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.   You can find each week’s topic on her site.

This week’s topic is Titles I’d Give Different Names To.  I’m not creative enough to make up a different title.  I had to do this one a little differently.

This was a tough one to do.  I know titles are given for a reason.  But there are some things that bother me with book titles.  Usually it’s titles that are too long, ones I can’t spell, or titles that don’t make sense or are just plain weird (though I’m sure they do once you read the book).  So I chose 10 that fit into those categories for me.
