Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. You can find each week’s topic on her site.
This week’s topic is top ten favorite tropes. I’m one of those people who doesn’t really hate tropes. They don’t bother me, while I know other people who hate them. I did a search to help me come up with some that I almost always enjoy.
Hate To Love:
I have no idea why I love this one so much. Books are almost always a standout if there is a hate to love romance.
I tend to enjoy books where the prince/princess/etc is hiding out, pretending to be an average person. Or when someone finds out they are royalty and never knew it.
I love villains. I love morally gray characters. And I love to see the positive in everyone, so it’s great when a villain redeems himself/herself/them.
Falling For A Best Friend’s Sibling:
This is just a cute one. And I think it’s something we wish for when we’re young. I was an only child and would have loved to have my best friend(s) as a future sister in law. But I was never into my friend’s siblings that way.
Similar to the royalty one. I don’t know why I like deceitful people. But the fake relationships that turn real are always fun to read.
A Well Done Love Triangle:
This one can be tricky. Love triangles can be really good in books if they’re written well. I don’t hate love triangles, but I’m not a huge fan of it just being put in a book for drama.
The Brooding Bad Boy:
Add this to my villain, morally gray thing. I love bad boys. I’ve been attracted to many of them over the years. There is something about them. Especially because I’ve found that many of the “bad boys” I knew actually had the kindest hearts.
Neighbors Falling In Love:
Another one that is just cute. Especially if they were just friends for a long time. Or if they hated each other and then found friendship and eventually love.
I love flawed characters. No one is perfect and I’m not a huge fan of reading about people who are perfect and never fail.
I must just like secrets in general. It’s fun to read about someone just coming into powers they never knew they had.
Do you love or hate any of these? Did you do this week’s top ten? If so, make sure you comment with your link so I can check it out.
