Prom-Wrecked by Jennifer DiGIovanni and T.H. Hernandez
Publication Date: May 6, 2019
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Their prom night ended in a jail cell with forty of their closest friends. But that’s hardly the worst thing that happened to them…
When the principal announces prom is canceled this year, senior Riley Hart is determined to save it. Armed with little more than her own enthusiasm, she ends up working closely with Owen Locklear, who is more than completely off-limits. Because he’s the boyfriend of her ex-BFF, Catherine Reed. Still, Owen knows Riley better than almost anyone, and his charming ideas for turning the prom upside-down and backward win Riley over.
Catherine is willing to join Owen and Riley on the prom committee, but only because her legacy as prom queen is at stake. She’s already suffocating under the weight of her parents’ expectations for after senior year, and compared to that, ensuring prom happens should be easy. At least until everything starts to go wrong.
First they lose their deposit. Then they book a band full of octogenarians. And lose their venue… Twice.
Riley will have an unforgettable teenage experience, damn it, if it’s the last thing she does…

Author Guest Post:
The world of Prom-Wrecked
When we started talking about writing together, Theresa and I knew we wanted to set the story in a location that was familiar for both of us. Theresa lives on the West Coast and I live on the East Coast, and when we critiqued each other’s work, we’d often pick up on some of the geographic differences that affected our writing. At some point, we realized that we’d both spent part of our lives in Ohio. We decided to make up a fictional town and named it Hamilton, after Virginia Hamilton, an author of children’s literature who lived in the state.
Once we had our location set, it was time to build the world for our characters. In my opinion, contemporary world building is as challenging and also just as much fun as fantasy world building. I love giving small towns unique quirks or describing overlooked neighborhoods in large towns. When writing Prom-Wrecked, we wanted the town to feel familiar to readers, but still have its own notable locations. As Riley and Catherine search for a prom event site, shop for dresses, or spend time hanging out with their friends, they travel around Hamilton, giving readers a sense of their world. Because the book revolves around prom, we hoped readers would be familiar with the traditions and chain of events leading to this memorable high school event. We also tried to spin a fresh twist on the prom story by letting the kids run the event and threw in quite a few challenges for them.
We hope you enjoy the world-building, along with the ups and downs of our book!
