Books I failed to read in 2018 (the post in which I publicly shame myself)

I planned on reading so many books in 2018 that I never got to.  I obviously expect way too much out of myself, but mostly, it’s because I kept requesting arcs.  I read most of those, but missed a handful throughout the year.  I had good intentions of reading a lot of these and it just never happened.  Warning, there are a lot!  I’m hoping to pick a handful and actually get to them next year.  Wish me luck!

Odd & True

One Giant Leap

Catwoman

City of Bones

A Very Large Expanse of Sea

Bring Me Their Hearts

City of Islands

The Storm Runner

Daughter of the Pirate King

The Star-Touched Queen

Children of Blood and Bone

The Hazelwood

Forest of a Thousand Lanterns

Starry Eyes

Toil & Trouble

Looking at this list made me realize a few things.

  1.  I expect a bit too much from myself.
  2.  I request too many new books.
  3.  I am more likely to read a book if I get an ARC.  Once it’s out, it moves down the pile.
  4.  I do better reading physical books and push physical ARCs to the top.

Did you have a lot of unread books for 2018?   Are any of these books you loved?

My name is Kristi and I review books and mod on TBR and Beyond on Facebook. I love to travel and go to concerts. I've been married for over 20 years. I listen to a lot of pop punk. Otherwise, I'm pretty boring. We do have four grandchildren now and try to see them monthly since they don't live close. I read mostly YA and adult mystery/thrillers. I also read a lot of middle grade and some adult romance. You can also find me on facebook, twitter, and instagram (don't post often).

    1. It’s so tough. Especially as I start getting more and more arcs since I’ve now been blogging over a month. I love getting them though, so I know I’ll continue to put those first. I just hope I can read more of my older books at some point, too.

  1. I loved Caraval & To Kill a Kingdom. I too expect too much from myself and have lots of unread books this year. I also had to adjust my reading goal for goodreads, since I was nowhere close to achieving 50. Lol. Renegades is still in my list too!!

  2. TO KILL A KINGDOM and FOREST OF A THOUSAND LANTERNS were two of my favorite books this year! I also love CARAVAL and its sequel. I hope you love these books when you get around to them 🙂

  3. do not shame yourself for not reading as much as you expected. life happens, stuff happens, blogging and reading is your hobby, not your job. we even need a break from our hobbies sometime!

  4. I loved The Hazelwood, Wildcard, Sadie, and The Cruel Prince!

There weren’t a lot of books I didn’t get to, but one I feel extra guilty about is Six of Crows! I just couldn’t get through it! 😦 I’m willing to give it another try, though, when I’m not on a library deadline.

  5. I have a HUGE TBR pile…there are so many books I want to read. I’m a member on Netgalley so anytime I get approved for a new ARC book on there I immediately read it, thus sending any planned reading down my list. Oh well, I’m still having fun reading! 🙂
