Discussion Post: Decline in Blog Activity

I recently asked about this on TBR and Beyond, but thought I would post it here, too.  Just a quick discussion since I’ve only been blogging for just over a year.  I’m curious if there are any trends in stats.

I noticed a slight decline in blog activity for August, but September has been a drastic decline.  My number of views is way down.

I was barely blogging at this time last year, so I can’t really use that to judge.  But I’m curious if this is normal this time of the year (school starting)?  Or is there something that I might not be doing to get people visiting?

Have you noticed a decline in activity for September?  If you’ve been blogging for awhile, is this a normal thing for this time of the year?  Do you have any advice to get the views back up or will it just get back to normal again soon?

My name is Kristi and I review books and mod on TBR and Beyond on Facebook. I love to travel and go to concerts. I've been married for over 20 years. I listen to a lot of pop punk. Otherwise, I'm pretty boring. We do have four grandchildren now and try to see them monthly since they don't live close. I read mostly YA and adult mystery/thrillers. I also read a lot of middle grade and some adult romance. You can also find me on facebook, twitter, and instagram (don't post often).

  1. This time of year is always a killer for me. Even my reads get shamefully slower. I really think it’s a ‘back to school’ thing. October will definitely be better, I’m sure. 😉
    Keep the great work. :*

  2. Yes! I had a little break in August so I thought it might have been that but now I’m wondering since you mentioned it.

I try and get on here everyday and read peoples posts and comment etc but sometimes time just runs away with me!

  3. I know I said this to you already, but I really do think it’s back to school time. I only have 2017 to compare it too, but I also dipped in September, then came up a little in October, then more in November, then got my most hits of the year in December. So, it’s not you, babe! And I think it is happening to all of us! Just look forward to December! Hehe! Happy reading! 💕xx

      1. Right? I think that’s totally it! And people wanting to “start up” or just make their blog better for the new year? OH and probably all the “best of” lists for the year… I know I love those… so I bet others do too! Hehehe! 💖xx

  4. My September is a bit of an anomaly because I have a slightly viral post with like 500+ views this month so in terms of visitors and views this is my best month so far; however, engagement rates are lower. I am only 7 months in so I don’t have anything to compare it too but it would make sense that people are struggling to adjust to back-to-school times, etc. It’s nice to know it isn’t an isolated issue – thanks for posting this!

  5. I think that’s really nothing to worry about. I’ve been blogging for almost four years now and I noticed that there are always moments when activity is at its best and moments when stats drop a little bit, especially in September, I think because of the whole back-to-school for a lot of people, too 🙂

      1. I wouldn’t worry about it at all, stats really have their ups and downs and I guess there’s not much we can do, but wait it out until people are getting back into the rhythm again 😀 ❤

      1. I’m glad if I could be of help 🙂 it really depends, but there are moments in the year when there seems to be a slow decline everywhere, so I wouldn’t worry too much. I’m certain you’re doing great, keep on going 😀
