I thought I would post a discussion post today. The topic is something I see pretty often and I always like to see what people prefer.
Which book format do you prefer? And why?
Audiobooks:
I just started listening to audiobooks last year. I usually use them as a reread or for nonfiction books. I like that I can listen in the car with my husband, but also at home using my Amazon Echo. We have audible.
Hardcover:
This is my preferred format for books. The print is usually a bit larger and my eyesight is bad. Plus, they just look beautiful on the shelves.
Paperback:
I prefer my arcs this way when I can get them. Again, my eyes are bad, so this is easiest for me. I also like that they are cheaper for books that I purchase and they take up less space. But I still prefer hardcover for finished copies. I mostly buy paperbacks to try out a book I’m not sure I’ll love or if there is a great sale.
Digital/Ebooks:
I have a kindle paperwhite and I do love it. I get the majority of my arcs as digital copies through Netgalley or Edelweiss. Sometimes a publisher will send me a digital copy by e-mail, too. I love that I can have hundreds of books to carry around in my purse. But I think it gets to my eyes a bit and I find that I read a little bit slower on my kindle. I’m not sure why because most people seem to read faster with it. I think I space out a bit more and reread sections.
What is your preferred format for books? Do you find that you read better with a specific format? Any complaints?
I love paperbacks because they’re so easy to carry around with me 🙂

I prefer paperbacks usually, although I love the way hardbacks look on my shelf! I find paperbacks easier to carry around with me and I don’t worry as much about them, as with hardbacks I worry about reading the dust jacket and bending the corners of the book in bags etc 😅

I do worry about that, too. I sometimes take the dust jacket off to be safer. I’ve started using book sleeves, too, but I don’t always remember to grab one before leaving the house.

I do take the dust jackets off when I’m reading, but tend to put them back on to put the book away. Ooo I’ve been meaning to get some book sleeves. They’re such a good idea!

They’ve been great. I used a few when packing books to bring on vacation and had no damage at all.

I’ve fallen in love with using my kindle, but I do still love paperbacks. They fit in bags so much more nicely than hardbacks.

Hardcovers are definitely bulky and difficult for one the go.

I have never tried out audiobooks, so I can’t speak about them, though I do want to try them out someday 🙂 I think my preferred format has to be paperback, because they are less expensive and easier to carry around, while still having the real feeling of books, turning pages, smelling the book etc hahaha. I do love how practical my e-reader is though and how I can leave home with 10 books with me, without breaking my back or shoulder from the weight of it all haha. I love how beautiful hardcovers are, but I usually only buy them for favorite authors/books 🙂

I love all formats tbh. I think that my least favourite would be ebooks because I have such a small phone screen so it really hurts my eyes to read a book on there. But hey… I continue suffering for NetGalley!
At the moment, my favourite format is audiobooks. I love how I can just lie on my bed and stare at my bedroom wall but still read at the same time. I also get so much reading done by listening to audiobooks because I listen to them whilst I’m doing chores or blogging/taking pictures! But I do love a good ol’ paperback!

Audiobooks are great for when I’m too busy to sit and read. I love being able to listen in the car. I can’t read in the car because I get headaches from it. So they have been perfect.

I also prefer hardcover and paperback over other formats, though the convenience of an ereader can’t be beat! For me, I tend to lose focus on audiobooks so I usually stick to them for rereads where i already know the story!

I use audiobooks for rereads, too. Or for political type books. I worry about losing focus, too, and have in the car (not while driving) with them.

Wonderful post! I generally prefer ebooks on my kindle paper white because of its convenience 🙂

I love all formats for different reasons! Physical books are my preference. but ereaders are so convenient and you can find some amazing deals. Audiobooks have been lifechanging! I started with nonfiction, then moved to rereads, then started listening to books that I knew I wouldn’t get to anytime soon.

Great post! I love all formats for different reasons: hardbacks for looking pretty, paperbacks for reading on a rainy day, ebooks for reading in bed or while traveling, and audiobooks during road trips!
