Title: LIKE NEVER AND ALWAYS
Author: Ann Aguirre
Pub. Date: July 17, 2018
Publisher: Tor Teen
Formats: Hardcover, eBook, audiobook
On a hot summer night, a screech of brakes and shattering glass changes two lives forever.
Liv wakes in the hospital, confused when they call her Morgan. She assumes it’s a case of mistaken identity, yet when the bandages come off, it’s not her face in the mirror anymore. It’s her best friend Morgan’s.
Morgan always seemed to have the perfect life, yet Liv must navigate endlessly disturbing secrets of the criminal and murderous variety—and a romance that feels like a betrayal. Torn between the boy she loved as Liv and the boy she’s grown to love as Morgan, Liv still has to survive Morgan’s last request.
Like Never and Always was a fun mystery with a weird twist and love story. I really liked it a lot!
This is the first solo book I’ve read from Ann Aguirre and I really enjoyed her writing. The story flowed well and it was interesting enough that I didn’t want to put it down at times.
Morgan, Clay, Liv, and Nathan are in a car accident. Liv wakes up in the hospital and things are really weird. Morgan’s boyfriend and dad are the ones who visit. They think she’s Morgan and told her that Liv died in the accident. Liv has no idea what is going on, but she realizes that she is inside Morgan’s body.
Morgan is the rich girl with a dad who is absent a lot. Her mom died and she is mostly alone. Liv has parents who adore her and a younger brother. Clay and Nathan are brothers. Clay is considered the bad boy by most people in town. He dropped out of school and works. Nathan is the smart one and had been dating Liv for awhile. Morgan surprised everyone by dating Clay for the last six months.
While in Morgan’s body, Liv starts finding out that she didn’t know her best friend as well as she though. Or her boyfriend either. And Clay is not who she thought he was. While things are confusing for Liv, she starts getting used to living as Morgan most of the time. Except that Morgan had a secret “boyfriend” that leads to major problems. Not only is he older and married, but he used to date her mom. Liv also finds out that Morgan believed that her mom’s accident might have been murder. She left a hidden message for Liv with what she knew.
Liv ends up doing everything she can to help Morgan find out answers thinking that maybe she can move on and be happy. She also spends a lot of time with Clay, realizng that he’s a really great guy. And maybe someone she can count on. It’s very hard at times pretending, but she does her best to act like Morgan for awhile. She can feel her there at times, even remembering some things from Morgan’s life. It’s like Morgan and Liv are combined into a new person.
This was a quick read and I can easily see someone reading it in one sitting. I’ll definitely pick up more books from the author, too.
Thank you to the publisher for sending my a physical copy for review.
