Synopsis:

Seventeen-year-old Daphne Bowman, a bookish drama nerd in public school, might never have crossed paths with Oliver, the popular, outgoing mascot for his private school’s football team, but one event has bound them inextricably. Daphne’s older sister, Emily, and Oliver’s older brother, Jason, who were high school sweethearts, committed suicide together seven years earlier.

When Daphne uncovers Emily and Jason’s bucket list—a list comprised of their “Top Ten” places to visit before they die—she knows she has to tell someone. The one person who might actually get what she’s going through and who might not think it’s silly that she wants to complete the list, is also someone she’s never spoken to—Oliver Pagano. Throwing caution to the wind, Daphne sends Oliver a Facebook message that will come to change the course of both of their senior years—and maybe their entire lives.

Tackling grief with a wry voice and an unflinching eye, So Glad to Meet You tells the story of two people who, in searching for what they’ve lost, end up finding what they never knew they needed—each other.

About The Author:

Lisa Super is a brunch enthusiast based in Los Angeles. She’s worked on a number of TV shows ranging from pop culture phenomenons (Flavor of Love) to traumedy gold (One Mississippi). While every day in LA is an adventure, traveling with her husband across the globe is her favorite hobby. SO GLAD TO MEET YOU is her first novel.

Q&A with Lisa:

What influenced you to write this book?

Living in LA, I’m one in the staggering mass of people who’ve moved from across the country and world to pursue their Hollywood dreams. My experience and love of LA is different from those who were born here. This is their hometown. In high school I realized my hometown wasn’t the place I wanted to live out the rest of my life. I wanted to write a story about two teenagers who felt the same way about LA, the place they’re stuck in, the place they need to get creative to find their adventure and peace within it.

How did you get into TV?

I was a total drama nerd in high school. I loved the idea of a career in theatre but wanted more financial stability and a 9-5 schedule. So I went to film school. (Cue hysterical laughter.) After college I moved to LA, worked nights for a couple years, and then broke into scripted TV. Now I work more of a 9-8 schedule, and I’ll always be freelance which isn’t the most secure, but TV is a cool place to be. I’m grateful to be here.

What is your favorite show that you’ve done?

I’m proudest to have worked on One Mississippi. I was a huge Tig Notaro fan before the show. Her dry, dark humor speaks to my soul. The diversity in the show was noteworthy, and there were many awesome women on our crew. The message of the show was heartbreaking and hopeful. The pilot, which I watched before I was hired, made me weep. My husband had to ask me if I was okay, and all I could do was nod while I was choking sobs.

How hard was it to get your debut novel published?  Any advice for new authors?

It wasn’t easy. Nothing was overnight. I was out on submission for six months before I got an offer and there was plenty of rejection along the way. You kind of have to embrace rejection and wear it like a badge. My advice would be to not dwell on one project for too long. Always be thinking about the next one. You learn so much and grow as a writer from every MS, and you can always come back to old projects.

Was this the first book you’ve written?

Yes, this was my first attempt at a novel. But I had many years of writing screenplays (albeit, unpaid), so I had the confidence in my writing ability. It was freeing to try a new format. But I made some rookie mistakes, too. SGTMY began in the wrong place, and it took me awhile to figure this out while I was querying. I probably rearranged and rewrote the opening five times. Only when the story began in the correct place did I get an offer from my awesome agent, Aimee Ashcraft.

What are some of the places on your travel bucket list?

There are SO MANY. But to name a few: Vietnam, Portugal, Rwanda, and the Galapagos.

What is your favorite place that you’ve traveled?

Angkor Wat (and the larger Siem Reap area) in Cambodia. The gorgeous temples, the red earth, our tuk-tuk driver, Mr. Han. All of these things made for the most incredible experience. My chest gets warm just thinking about it.

My name is Kristi and I review books and mod on TBR and Beyond on Facebook. I love to travel and go to concerts. I've been married for over 20 years. I listen to a lot of pop punk. Otherwise, I'm pretty boring. We do have four grandchildren now and try to see them monthly since they don't live close. I read mostly YA and adult mystery/thrillers. I also read a lot of middle grade and some adult romance. You can also find me on facebook, twitter, and instagram (don't post often).
