Echoes by Alice Reeds
They wake on a deserted island. Fiona and Miles, high school enemies now stranded together. No memory of how they got there. No plan to follow, no hope to hold on to.
Each step forward reveals the mystery behind the forces that brought them here. And soon, the most chilling discovery: something else is on the island with them.
Something that won’t let them leave alive.
Echoes was such a strange book with lots of twists.
Fiona and Miles are not similar, but they both got picked for an internship in Berlin. While they both go to the same school, they really don’t like each other much. Fiona’s family doesn’t have a lot of money. She has a scholarship to their private school. She’s a kickboxer with a father that pushes her way too hard. Miles has a lot of money and a dad who pretty much ignores him.
On the way to Berlin, their plane crashes and things just get really weird from there. The chapters in the beginning alternate between the island and Berlin. But how can that be since they crashed on the way? In Berlin, they find out that the company isn’t where they say it is and they’re being followed. No one will answer their phones and they don’t have enough money to get home. On the island, the pilot is dead and they are alone. Except for a very angry bear.
Fiona and Miles must find a way to survive alone on an island while trying to figure out what happened to them. They find dead bodies and must find a way to stay alive.
This book has so many moments that have you questioning what is going on, what is real, and who can you trust. I can’t get anymore into it without giving away hints. The ending is crazy and I really hope the author writes a sequel (there is none listed on Goodreads yet).
I gave this book 4 1/2 stars. It would have been a 5 star read, but there were a few spots that kind of dragged. But the rest of the book was very hard to put down.
Thank you to Entangled Teen and Netgalley for my copy for review.
