Holly Black & Susan Dennard at Mysterious Galaxy San Diego, CA

My husband and I took a short vacation to San Diego for our anniversary this year.  I had to look and see what book events were going on and found a great one that wasn’t happening here in Illinois.  Mysterious Galaxy had Susan Dennard and Holly Black on Friday February 16th, so we made sure to attend.

Since we were on vacation, I didn’t think to write things down when we got back to the hotel.  So I don’t have a lot of details about the discussion to share.  I will mostly be sharing photos.

Both authors talked about their favorite books, what they read when they were young, games, and what weird things they found when researching their books.  Holly and Susan both had great personalities and seemed to get along really well.  They had the audience laughing a ton.

We waited in line for about 30 minutes without moving, so we left without getting anything signed.  It was our anniversary night and I didn’t want to wait for two hours.  I have signed books already by both authors, so I was ok with it.  Just a bit bummed that I didn’t get to meet them.

But it was a fun event and I purchased another book from Mysterious Galaxy, too.  I would definitely go back there.  They had a great selection of fantasy and young adult books.

Susan was sick, but she did a great job and worked through it (while medicated).  I would love to attend another event with these two, especially if they tour together next year (fingers crossed since their books come out around the same time).

Have you ever met either of these authors?  Are you a fan of their books?

I'm Kristi. I'm a wife, mom, and grandma. I have been breeding leopard geckos for ten years. I love to read and have been trying to review more books (the reason for this blog besides wanting to talk about books with everyone). I also love music and going to concerts, mostly punk and pop punk.
