Review of People Like Us by Dana Mele (arc)

People Like Us by Dana Mele

Kay Donovan may have skeletons in her closet, but the past is past, and she’s reinvented herself entirely. Now she’s a star soccer player whose group of gorgeous friends run their private school with effortless popularity and acerbic wit. But when a girl’s body is found in the lake, Kay’s carefully constructed life begins to topple.

The dead girl has left Kay a computer-coded scavenger hunt, which, as it unravels, begins to implicate suspect after suspect, until Kay herself is in the crosshairs of a murder investigation. But if Kay’s finally backed into a corner, she’ll do what it takes to survive. Because at Bates Academy, the truth is something you make…not something that happened.

A Look At Some Of My Bookshelves

I thought I would do something a little different today and show off some of my bookshelves.  This isn’t all of them and nothing is really organized.  I’m hoping to take a weekend to move everything around, but I have no idea how I want to organize them yet.

I forgot to move my camera off the one shelf before taking pictures.  We have recently started collecting some pop vinyl and have more on the way.  I also don’t have a picture in the Aruba frame yet.  I need to get one printed out soon.

Goodreads Monday 1/22/18

Goodreads Monday is hosted by Lauren’s Page Turners.  All you have to do is show off a book from your TBR that you’re looking forward to reading.

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman  Illustrated by Chris Riddell

Under the streets of London lies a world most people could never dream of.

When Richard Mayhew helps a mysterious girl he finds bleeding on the pavement, his boring life changes in an instant. Her name is Door, she’s on the run from two assassins in black suits and she comes from London Below.

His act of kindness leads him to a place filled with monsters and angels, a Beast in a labyrinth and an Earl who holds Court in a Tube train.

It is strangely familiar yet utterly bizarre.

[This special edition presents Neil Gaiman’s preferred text for his extraordinary modern classic, illustrated for the first time (by Chris Riddell). Also includes an interview with Neil Gaiman, and the Neverwhere short story How the Marquis Got His Coat Back.]

Hardcover, Author’s Preferred Text / Special Illustrated Edition, 436 pages
Published July 14th 2016 by Headline (first published September 16th 1996)

Have you read Neverwhere yet?  Are you a fan of Neil Gaiman?  I’ve liked everything I’ve read from him so far.

Down the TBR #13

Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by lost in a story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when youre scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well thats going to change!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if youre feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

I’m going to do 15 this week.  If there are no comments, it’s because I just don’t remember adding the book or it just doesn’t interest me anymore.

I Am Pilgrim.  There are some decent reviews of this, but I don’t see myself picking up a 600 page book right now unless it’s something I am dying to read.
